WELCOME TO THE PARING BOL-ANON BLOG

We thought a simple page or blog to introduce the Paring Bol-anon, and what we are about, would be a welcomed idea. On the other hand, we thought again, a page or blog would allow us and others a "venue" to show some "stuff" that we do, places that we go, memories we hold as dear to us, or even serves as a "contact point" for other related subjects that involve us (e.g. Clergy, Paring Bol-anon, IHMS, Bohol, etc). There's really so much more to say but since we're on time constraint building this little intro and get going so how 'bout revisiting this little blogster for some more "stuff" the next time around? Would you? Hopefully by then all the Construction Boxes reserved on this page will already be expanded. Please bookmark or keep this page handy by saving it in your Favorites Folder in your IE Browsers for easy visits. Thanks! - (".)

BALITA GIKAN SA TAGBILARAN

Email from Betty Balatero:
Diocese of Tagbilaran Update
Since early January, the new Vicar-General of Tagbilaran Diocese is now MSGR. CRISPIN VARQUEZ, the present parish priest of the Cathedral. Msgr. Siloy Darunday had expressed his desire - to the new Bishop - to bow out of VG service. Of course, he is still very much around.
*     *     *
So during their Christmas party, Bishop Medroso asked every priest in attendance to cast his vote (only one name, in an election without nominees) to guide him in his decision. Fr. Varquez came out strong!
*     *     *
With Bishop Medroso, new developments will come up fast. With the tenth anniversary of the First Diocesan Synod approaching,
the Cathedral may soon be a purely diocesan center it ought to be.
*     *     *
With the multi-million St. Anthony Church, in Sta. Cruz, 3rd District, soon to be finished, we will be seeing a new parish church - well, aside from Dampas and Mansasa Hts which are now building the __th & __th soon-to-be parish churches.

PB Tagbilaran R & R
PB-Tagbilaran this week are on R & R (Retreat and Relaxation). 34 of more than a hundred priests (mostly Young Clergy) are now in Bangkok, Thailand with Bishop Medroso and Bishop Tumulak.
*     *     *

The Senior and the Middle-Aged groups (with a few Young Clergy) are at the Bohol Beach Club in Panglao. Fr. Alpuerto, SVD, conducts the sessions of the Seniors while Fr. Martin Lupiba does the same with the Middle-Aged.
*     *     *

Every February, PB Tagbilaran follows this Spiritual Program. As a deviation from the usual Whole Group R & R, every other year the three groups (Young, Middle-Aged, Seniors) split to be able to discuss the concerns of their age-group.
*    *     *
We lay people, together with the Religious Sisters, support them with our prayers, as we thank all those who arrange the trips to be available and affordable to the participants.

Praise God!

The funeral of the late Fr. Felix Cubelo in Cogon church last Tuesday 1:30 p.m. was "successful" - die or at least, return to Bohol kahit patay na - to "enjoy" a "lively" send-off. More than 40 priests from Tagbilaran and Talibon dioceses were present at the Mass presided by Tagbilaran bishop, Most Rev. Leonardo Medroso. Of course, relatives galore were present, too, - and scores of friends of old.

NOTE FROM A PB

Email from Fr. Khing Vano (11/9/07):

WOW, BOHOL... NO MORE!

-
dear pbs, this is my letter to dr. edgar gamboa after 11 days here in bohol. padayon paring bol-anon! - khingex
-
dear edgar, i am leaving for carmen today and i am afraid internet may not be very available there so i passed by the internet cafe beside darunday manor where i am staying. it's monsignor darunday family's hotel sort of w/ only 8 rooms. they are expanding to third floor with another 8 rooms. just in front of the cathedral. small but very comfortable serving organic foods... i have not contacted fr. gil yet. maybe the next time i go to cebu sometime next week. selling timeshare can be hard. so just be ready. why not a beach house in bohol. there's still lots for sale in panglao... maybe you can write something on ecology and environment. bohol is filled with tourists because of it's natural beauty, pristine beaches, slow pace of life, friendly and religious people. this attraction is being eroded by rising criminality (tulis has been a monthly thing already), prostitution and drugs (although not in an alarming scale yet). but the most dangerous is the industrialization and modernization  of bohol: a domestic airport with int'l standards will be built right in the heart of panglao. pres. arroyo, governor aumentado, mr. fonacier (owner of bohol beach club) financed mr alcala to oust mayor dumaluan who was opposed to the airport in the last elections. now that mayor dumaluan is gone, the airport construction would probably start early next year. goodbye to pristine panglao and wow bohol... phil sinter corporation is blasting limestone mountains in garcia-hernandez, bohol to feed kawasaki plant in cagayan de oro with limestone to make iron ore shipped to japan for cars and other steel products. this has been going on for more than thirty years. naupaw na ang bukid, putol mga kahoy, floods starting in downtown g-hernandez. nobody raises a finger because of money and politics. that part of the province is no longer wow bohol. malaysians are also coming with their oil palm plants. hundreds of hectares in interior bohol, including carmen, are now planted with an oil palm not native to bohol but malaysia to be processed into oil for different uses. fertilizer and insecticides for these palms destroy the land and water springs because bohol is based on limestone and those chemicals easily creep underground polluting our underground springs and water sources. oil palms compete with the already growing and native coconuts. monocropping is dangerous for a pristine area that boasts of different forest trees, bushes, and shrubs which make bohol what it is. there's a lot to be done to conserve ecology and environment here in bohol. some of our ecology activists have given up. i will discover more the longer i stay here but i will keep you posted. sigue, padayon!
